Frequently asked questions
Can I take Omestiv 20mg Capsule with domperidone?
Both Omestiv 20mg Capsule and Domperidone are safe for use together as clinically observed, with no harmful effects reported. A fixed-dose combination of these two medicines is also available.
What should I know before taking Omestiv 20mg Capsule?
Do not take Omestiv 20mg Capsule if you are concurrently taking a medication containing atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Inform your doctor of any liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain or indigestion. Tell your doctor about all other medications you are taking as they may interact with Omestiv 20mg Capsule. Let your doctor know if you have had a history of allergic skin reactions to this medication. It should not be given to children under one year old or those who weigh less than 10kg.
Can Omestiv 20mg Capsule cause diarrhea?
Yes, it may cause diarrhea as a side effect in some people. This is usually not bothersome but if you experience persistent watery stools, along with stomach cramps and fever, seek immediate medical help.
For how long can Omestiv 20mg Capsule be taken?
Continue taking it as recommended by your doctor. The duration may vary based on your condition; do not stop taking it without consulting your physician.
Can Omestiv 20mg Capsule cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
Long-term use of Omestiv 20mg Capsule can lead to decreased calcium absorption, resulting in a potential increase in bone fractures. This includes hip, wrist, or spine fractures. If you have osteoporosis or are on corticosteroids (which increases the risk of osteoporosis), discuss this with your doctor before starting treatment and consider discussing ways to prevent it such as calcium or vitamin D supplementation.
What are the long-term side effects of Omestiv 20mg Capsule?
Prolonged use (over 3 months) may lead to complications like low magnesium levels in your blood which can cause fatigue, confusion, dizziness, shakiness or lightheadedness. You might also experience muscle twitches or irregular heartbeat. For long-term use exceeding one year, there's a higher risk of bone fractures due to reduced calcium levels and increased vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to anemia and you may experience fatigue, weakness, or paleness. Other potential side effects include palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence, or nerve problems such as numbness, tingling, or difficulty walking.
Does Omestiv 20mg Capsule cause vitamin deficiencies?
It may potentially lead to vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. The medication decreases the gastric acid secretion in your stomach, which can interfere with Vitamin B12 absorption from food. You might need to supplement with Vitamin B12 as prescribed by your doctor. The clinical significance of vitamin C levels' decrease is not fully known, therefore, supplementation isn't recommended.
Can Omestiv 20mg Capsule be used in patients with cardiac problems?
You can take Omestiv 20mg Capsule as prescribed by your doctor if you have a pre-existing cardiac condition. However, it is important to note that certain medications, such as clopidogrel and digoxin, commonly used for heart conditions, may interact with Omestiv 20mg Capsule. Therefore, close monitoring and management by a healthcare professional are necessary when using these medications together.
