Frequently asked questions
Can I take Omeplus 20mg Tablet with domperidone?
Omeplus 20mg Tablet and Domperidone can be safely taken together as they are not known to interact negatively clinically. A fixed-dose combination of these two medicines is also commercially available.
What should I know before taking Omeplus 20mg Tablet?
Do not take this medication if you are currently taking atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Inform your doctor about any liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, difficulty swallowing, stomach pain or indigestion. Tell your doctor of all other medications you're taking to avoid potential interactions.
Can Omeplus 20mg Tablet cause diarrhea?
Yes, some patients may experience diarrhea as a side effect. If this is severe or accompanied by stomach cramps and fever, seek medical help immediately.
For how long can I take Omeplus 20mg Tablet?
Take it for the duration prescribed by your doctor, adjusting based on your condition. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.
Can Omeplus 20mg Tablet cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
It can lead to osteoporosis (thinning of bones) due to decreased calcium absorption. Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures, particularly in the hip, wrist, or spine. Talk to your doctor if you have osteoporosis or are currently taking corticosteroids, as these substances can further increase the risk of osteoporosis.
What are the long term side effects of Omeplus 20mg Tablet?
Prolonged use (over 3 months) may result in adverse effects such as low magnesium levels, causing fatigue, confusion, dizziness, tremors or lightheadedness. Muscle twitches and irregular heartbeat can also be experienced. If the usage continues beyond a year, there is an increased risk of bone fractures (due to reduced calcium levels), stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency may lead to anemia, causing fatigue, weakness, or paleness.
Does Omeplus 20mg Tablet cause vitamin deficiencies?
It can potentially contribute to low levels of vitamin B12 and vitamin C. The decrease in gastric acid secretion may affect vitamin B12 absorption from the stomach, necessitating potential vitamin B12 supplementation. The clinical significance of vitamin C deficiency is not fully established.
Can Omeplus 20mg Tablet be used by patients with cardiac conditions?
Patients with cardiac problems can take this medication under their doctor's prescription. However, it may interact with medications like clopidogrel or digoxin, which are commonly prescribed for individuals with heart conditions. Close monitoring by a doctor is essential when such combinations are used.
