Dry Syrup
Omclav Duo Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
Omclav Duo Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Omclav Duo Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Omclav Duo Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Omclav Duo Dry Syrup to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines.
Omclav Duo Dry Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. It's crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medication they are taking before starting this medication. Please also consult a medical professional for guidance on administering any other medicines to your child.
Antibiotics usually don't interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received one. However, it is recommended that children on antibiotics not be given a vaccine until they recover from the illness. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered.
Periodically, the doctor might order kidney and liver function tests for children undergoing long-term treatment with this medication to monitor their condition.
No, exceeding the recommended dosage of this medicine can increase risks associated with side effects. If your child experiences an escalation of symptoms, please contact their doctor for reevaluation.
No, do not discontinue this medication without completing the full course prescribed by your child's doctor. Even if you feel better, it's important to continue taking the medication as per instructions to ensure its effectiveness.
Yes, Omclav Duo Dry Syrup can potentially cause diarrhea. It is an antibiotic that fights harmful bacteria, and it might also disrupt beneficial bacteria in your child's gut, leading to diarrhea. In case of diarrhea, encourage your child to drink sufficient fluids. If diarrhea persists or you notice any signs of dehydration like decreased urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine, consult a doctor before administering additional medications.
Most of the time, bacterial infections don't follow viral infections. In fact, giving antibiotics to manage a viral infection could increase your child's risk of experiencing side effects. Please seek advice from their doctor before starting antibiotics.
Yellow or green mucus in the nose doesn't automatically suggest that your child needs antibiotics. During a common cold, it's normal for mucus to thicken and change color from clear to yellow or green. Symptoms usually last 7-10 days.
Seek immediate medical attention if your child experiences severe allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea), and liver damage (paleness, weakness, vomiting). Although rare, these side effects need expert intervention.
