Oral Suspension
Oltef-M Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients, given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis. This medicine is not suitable for viral infections such as the common cold and flu.
This medicine should only be given to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water.
Calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid
The antibiotic ingredients in Oltef-M Oral Suspension interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone, a gas-absorbing agent, improves gastric tolerability of the combination and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Make sure your child drinks plenty of water if they experience diarrhea Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help if your child has an altered taste or furry tongue Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Oltef-M Oral Suspension Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu Discontinue Oltef-M Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing
Before starting Oltef-M Oral Suspension, inform your doctor if your child has any of the following conditions: heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sensitivity to sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders affecting blood vessels. This is important because these conditions could be aggravated by Oltef-M Oral Suspension and may lead to complications.
No, do not combine Oltef-M Oral Suspension with cough and cold medicines. The active ingredients in Oltef-M Oral Suspension might interact with alcohol-containing cough syrups and lead to disulfiram reaction, causing nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
Taking a larger dose of Oltef-M Oral Suspension is unlikely to cause serious harm. However, if you suspect an overdose, contact your child’s doctor immediately. Overdose may lead to unwanted side effects like seizures, tremors, severe headaches, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heartbeat.
If your child does not improve despite completing the prescribed course of treatment with Oltef-M Oral Suspension, consult their doctor. The doctor may prescribe a different antibiotic that has a higher efficacy against the specific bacteria causing the infection.
Tell your child's doctor about all medications they are taking, as some may interact with Oltef-M Oral Suspension. Always consult your doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Store Oltef-M Oral Suspension at room temperature, in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Keep medicines out of reach of children to prevent accidental consumption.
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not receive a vaccine until they are completely recovered from their illness. Once your child feels better, the vaccination can be scheduled.
Oltef-M Oral Suspension contains metronidazole, which can cause red-brown urine. This color change is not a sign of a health problem but a side effect. It typically subsides once the treatment is complete.
