Oral Suspension
Oltaur M Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that is effective against a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections. In children, it is used to treat infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
Oltaur M Oral Suspension is an antibiotic having ofloxacin and metronidazole as its active ingredients. Both these medicines damage the DNA of the infection-causing bacteria, thus killing it by stopping its growth. This prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.
If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help if your child experiences an altered taste. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Oltaur M Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Discontinue Oltaur M Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.
Although an extra dose of Oltaur M Oral Suspension will not have any side effects, always be vigilant. If you think you have given too much Oltaur M Oral Suspension to your child, immediately contact a doctor. Overdose can increase the risk of unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Rush to your child’s doctor on immediate basis if you notice any of these symptoms.
If your child does not improve with Oltaur M Oral Suspension despite completing the prescribed course, this may indicate that the medicine is not effective against the bacteria causing the infection. In such a case, consult your child’s doctor who may recommend another antibiotic with specific action against those bacteria.
It is essential to inform your child's doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Oltaur M Oral Suspension. It's also important to check with your doctor before giving your child any additional medicine. Some medicines may interact with Oltaur M Oral Suspension.
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children recently vaccinated. However, it is generally recommended to avoid giving vaccinations to a child who is still under treatment for illness until they recover fully from the infection.
Inform your child’s doctor if your child has heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there is a possibility that Oltaur M Oral Suspension may worsen these conditions and cause complications.
