Oral Suspension
Oftic R Oral Suspension is usually given to children to treat acute diarrhea caused due to bacterial infections. It helps relieve the symptoms, severity, and duration of illness by killing the diarrhea-causing microorganism and reducing the loss of water and electrolytes.
Give Oftic R Oral Suspension only for whom it is prescribed. Never share the medicines as it can harm. Do not mix Oftic R Oral Suspension along with any other herbal or ayurvedic medicine as that may cause unwanted side effects.
Oftic R Oral Suspension contains two medicines: Racecadotril and ofloxacin. Racecadotril is an enkephalinase inhibitor that reduces the secretion of water and electrolytes from the intestine, while Ofloxacin is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing them from reproducing and causing infection.
Loose, watery diarrhea can lead to loss of fluids and essential salts from your child's body. Make sure to replenish this in the form of ORS (Oral rehydration solution) to combat dehydration. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Oftic R Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Give Oftic R Oral Suspension only for whom it is prescribed. Never share the medicines as it can harm. Do not mix Oftic R Oral Suspension along with any other herbal or ayurvedic medicine as that may cause unwanted side effects. Do not give Oftic R Oral Suspension if your child has persistent uncontrolled vomiting as this medicine will not be absorbed.
While an extra dose of Oftic R Oral Suspension is unlikely to cause harm, it is essential to consult with your child's doctor immediately. Overdose may lead to unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, unconsciousness, and palpitations (irregularities of heartbeat).
It is not recommended to administer Oftic R Oral Suspension to children who are intolerant to dairy products/milk, as the suspension contains lactose.
Oftic R Oral Suspension may interact with other medicines or substances. Before starting treatment with Oftic R Oral Suspension, inform your child's doctor about any other medications your child is taking. Additionally, consult with your child's doctor before giving any other medicine to your child.
Antibiotics typically do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not receive vaccinations until they have recovered from their illness. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered.
The use of Oftic R Oral Suspension in chronic diarrhea has not been extensively studied. Therefore, it is recommended to consult with your child's doctor before administering any medication to your child.
