Oftec Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine commonly given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. It is also part of the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment regimen. This medicine is used to target the eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, abdomen, and urinary tract.
Give the medicine as soon as you remember unless your child's doctor has advised a specific regime for your child. Do not double the dose to catch up. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Oftec Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
Oftec Oral Suspension is an antibiotic that interferes with the genetic material of bacteria by implanting defects in its DNA. These defects hamper the multiplication of the bacteria and affect its survival as well. It kills the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading without making them resistant to further treatment.

Seek immediate medical attention from your child’s doctor if you notice any of these symptoms.
If your child does not show improvement after taking Oftec Oral Suspension for the prescribed duration, it might be because the medicine is not effective against the bacteria causing the infection. Contact a healthcare professional who may prescribe another antibiotic that is more targeted for this specific infection. Please note that not all medications are given through oral routes; some may require intravenous injection (IV) in a hospital setting.

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children who have recently received one. However, it's important to wait until your child recovers from their illness before getting vaccinated. Once they feel better, the vaccine can be administered.
Inform the doctor if your child has any pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease, genetic disorders of blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergic reaction to sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. It's crucial to disclose these conditions because Oftec Oral Suspension may worsen existing complications and lead to complications.
