Suspension
Ofspan M Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that is effective against a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections. In children, it is used to treat infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
Ofspan M Suspension is an antibiotic having ofloxacin and metronidazole as its active ingredients. Both these medicines damage the DNA of the infection-causing bacteria, thus killing it by stopping its growth. This prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.
If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help if Ofspan M Suspension causes an altered taste. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Ofspan M Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Discontinue Ofspan M Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.
While an extra dose of Ofspan M Suspension will not have any significant side effects, it is crucial to remain vigilant. If you believe your child has taken a larger than prescribed amount of Ofspan M Suspension, immediately contact a doctor. Overdosing can increase the risk of unwanted side effects like seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of these symptoms.
If your child doesn't respond to treatment with Ofspan M Suspension, it may be because the medicine isn't effectively targeting the bacteria causing the infection. In this case, seek advice from your child’s doctor who might recommend a different antibiotic medication that specifically targets the bacteria causing the infection.
Ofspan M Suspension can interact with some other medications or substances. Before starting it, tell your doctor about any other medications your child is taking. It's also crucial to check with your child’s doctor before giving them any new medicines.
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children who have recently received one. However, it is important to avoid giving any vaccine to children taking antibiotics until they fully recover from their illness. Once your child feels better, you can give them the vaccine.
If your child has a history of heart disease, genetic disorders affecting blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sensitivity to sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis, inform the doctor about it beforehand. These conditions may be exacerbated by Ofspan M Suspension and could lead to complications.
Yes, this is common with Ofspan M Suspension. The active ingredient in the medicine, metronidazole, can cause a change in urine color to red or brown. This side effect is harmless and resolves once the medication is finished.
No, do not combine Ofspan M Suspension with cough and cold medications as it can interfere with their effectiveness.
