OFM-DS Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that is effective against a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections.
Oral Suspension
OFM-DS Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that is effective against a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections. In children, it is used to treat infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
OFM-DS Suspension is an antibiotic having ofloxacin and metronidazole as its active ingredients. Both these medicines damage the DNA of the infection-causing bacteria, thus killing it by stopping its growth. This prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.
If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help if your child experiences an altered taste. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking OFM-DS Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Discontinue OFM-DS Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.
While an extra dose of OFM-DS Suspension will not have any harmful effects, it is crucial to be vigilant. If you believe your child has received an excess dose of OFM-DS Suspension, contact a doctor immediately. High doses can increase the risk of unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headaches, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if any of these symptoms arise.
If your child does not improve despite completing the prescribed course of OFM-DS Suspension, it may indicate that the medication is not effectively targeting the bacteria causing the infection. Consulting with a doctor is crucial in this case. They may consider alternative antibiotics with more targeted action against the specific bacterial cause.
OFM-DS Suspension may interact with certain medicines or substances. Before starting OFM-DS Suspension, inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are currently taking. Always consult your doctor before giving any medication to your child.
Antibiotics usually don't interfere with vaccine ingredients or trigger a negative reaction in children who have just been vaccinated. However, it is generally recommended to postpone vaccination until the child recovers fully from the illness. Once your child feels better, they can be given the vaccine.
Inform the doctor if your child has a history of heart disease, genetic disorders related to blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sun allergy), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. These conditions may increase the risk of complications when taking OFM-DS Suspension.
Yes, it is normal. The active ingredient in OFM-DS Suspension (metronidazole) can lead to a reddish brown tinge in urine. This side effect is harmless and will subside once the medication course is completed.
No, do not mix OFM-DS Suspension with cough and cold medicines as this can interfere with their effectiveness.
