Oral Suspension
Introduction
Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients: ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. It is used to treat bacterial infections in children, including those of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Directions for Use
Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by the doctor and to complete the full course of treatment.
How it works
The antibiotic ingredients in Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone, a gas-absorbing agent, improves gastric tolerability of the combination and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Quick Tips
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.

Frequently asked questions
What must I inform the doctor about before administering Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension to my child?
You must tell your doctor if your child has any pre-existing conditions such as heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sunlight allergy), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders involving blood vessels. This is because Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension may exacerbate these conditions and lead to complications.
Can Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension be administered alongside cough and cold medicines?
No, do not combine Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension with cough and cold medications. This is because one of the ingredients in Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension may interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups, potentially leading to a disulfiram reaction, which can cause nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
What should I do if an overdose of Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension is administered by mistake?
An excess dose of Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension is unlikely to be harmful. However, if you believe your child has ingested a larger than the prescribed amount, contact your child's doctor immediately. Overdosing may trigger unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of these symptoms.
What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension for the prescribed duration?
The lack of improvement in your child's condition could indicate that Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension is not effective against the infection. It is crucial to consult your child's doctor, who may prescribe a more potent antibiotic with higher efficacy against the specific bacteria causing the disease. In some cases, stronger antibiotics may need to be administered via an intravenous (IV) route in a hospital setting.
Can other medications be taken simultaneously with Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension?
Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension can sometimes interact with other medications or substances. Always inform your child's doctor about all the medications they are taking before starting Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension. Additionally, it is crucial to seek their advice before administering any medication to your child.
How should Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension be stored?
Store Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension at room temperature in a dry place away from direct sunlight or heat. To prevent accidental consumption, make sure all the medications are kept out of reach and sight.
Can I vaccinate my child while on treatment with Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension?
Antibiotics typically do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or trigger adverse reactions in children who have been recently vaccinated. However, it's important to note that children receiving antibiotics should not receive any vaccinations until they fully recover from the illness before administration.
My child has noticed red-brown urine since starting Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension. Is this normal?
Oflozed-SM Oral Suspension contains metronidazole, a medication that can cause red-brown urine. This is not pathogenic but a side effect. The color will fade after the treatment period has ended.
