Oral Suspension
Ofloxin 50mg Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine commonly given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. It is also part of the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment regimen. This medicine is used to target the eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, abdomen, and urinary tract.
Give the medicine as soon as you remember unless your child's doctor has advised a specific regime for your child. Do not double the dose to catch up. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Ofloxin 50mg Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
Ofloxin 50mg Oral Suspension is an antibiotic that interferes with the genetic material of bacteria by implanting defects in its DNA. These defects hamper the multiplication of the bacteria and affect its survival as well. Thus, it kills the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading without making them resistant to further treatment.
Do not panic. You can give the medicine as soon as you remember unless your child's doctor has advised a specific regime for your child. Do not double the dose to catch up. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Ofloxin 50mg Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions.
While an extra dose of Ofloxin 50mg Oral Suspension is unlikely to cause harm, it's essential to seek medical attention immediately if you suspect your child has taken more than the prescribed amount. Overdose symptoms may include seizures, tremors, severe headaches, sudden weakness, unconsciousness, and palpitations (irregular heartbeats). If you notice any of these signs, rush your child to their doctor without delay.
If your child's symptoms persist despite completing the full treatment course with Ofloxin 50mg Oral Suspension, it may indicate that the medication is not effective against the underlying infection. In this case, consult your child's doctor, who can assess the situation and potentially prescribe an alternative antibiotic or recommend a different treatment approach. It's also possible that a hospital-based treatment, such as intravenous therapy, might be necessary.
Ofloxin 50mg Oral Suspension can interact with other medications or substances. Before administering the medication to your child, inform their doctor about any other medications they are currently taking. Additionally, consult with their healthcare provider before giving your child any additional medications.
Antibiotics like Ofloxin 50mg Oral Suspension generally do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently been vaccinated. However, it's recommended to delay vaccinations until your child has fully recovered from their illness. Once they are feeling better, the vaccination can be administered without issues.
Before administering Ofloxin 50mg Oral Suspension, inform their doctor if your child has any pre-existing conditions, such as heart disease, genetic disorders affecting blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sunlight allergy), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is crucial to ensure that the medication does not exacerbate these conditions and lead to complications.
