Introduction
Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients: ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. It is used to treat bacterial infections in children, including infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Directions for Use
Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by the doctor and to complete the full course of treatment.
How it works
Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients. The antibiotic ingredients, ofloxacin and metronidazole, interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA, killing the infection-causing bacteria and preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone, a gas-absorbing agent, binds with gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem, aiding in the removal of gases and providing relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Quick Tips
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.

Frequently asked questions
What should I inform my child's doctor about before administering Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension?
Inform your child's doctor if they have any pre-existing medical conditions, such as heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photallergy, neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders involving blood vessels. This is because Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension may exacerbate these conditions and lead to complications.
Can Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension be given alongside cough and cold medicines?
No, do not administer Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension with cough and cold medicines. This is because one of its ingredients can interact with alcohol-containing medications like cough syrups, leading to a disulfiram reaction, causing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
What should I do if my child receives an accidental overdose of Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension?
An extra dose of Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension is unlikely to cause harm. However, if you suspect your child has taken too much, contact a doctor immediately. Overdose symptoms may include seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid irregular heartbeat.
Why might my child not show improvement even after taking Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension as prescribed?
It is possible that Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension may be ineffective against the infection-causing bacteria. In such cases, consult your child's doctor, who may prescribe a different antibiotic with higher efficacy or administer it via IV route in the hospital.
Can other medications be taken simultaneously with Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension?
Consult your child's doctor before giving any medicine to your child. Inform them about any other medications your child is taking, as Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension may interact with other substances.

Store Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension at room temperature in a dry place away from direct heat and light. Keep it out of reach and sight of children to prevent accidental consumption.

Why does my child pass red-brown urine after taking Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension?
This is a normal side effect of metronidazole in Oflotas MZ Oral Suspension, which can cause red-brown urine. It subsides once the treatment is completed.
