Introduction
Oflotam M Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that is effective against a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections. In children, it is used to treat infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
How it works
Oflotam M Syrup is an antibiotic having ofloxacin and metronidazole as its active ingredients. Both these medicines damage the DNA of the infection-causing bacteria, thus killing it by stopping its growth. This prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.
Quick Tips
If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water. Oflotam M Syrup may cause an altered taste. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Oflotam M Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Discontinue Oflotam M Syrup and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.

Frequently asked questions
What if I accidentally give my child too much Oflotam M Syrup?
Although an extra dose of Oflotam M Syrup will not have any side effects, always be vigilant. If you believe your child has received more than the prescribed dose of Oflotam M Syrup, immediately contact a doctor. Overdose increases the risk of unwanted side effects like seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms appear.
What should I do if my child doesn't show improvement after taking Oflotam M Syrup for the recommended time?
If your child doesn't improve despite taking Oflotam M Syrup for the prescribed duration, it might mean that the medication isn't able to fight the bacteria causing the infection. In this case, visit a doctor who can prescribe an antibiotic with more specific action against the infection-causing bacteria.
Can I take other medications at the same time as Oflotam M Syrup?
Olfotlam M Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. Tell your doctor about all other medications your child is taking before starting Oflotam M Syrup. It's also essential to check with a doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while they are on treatment with Oflotam M Syrup?
Antibiotics generally don't interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause adverse reactions. However, children taking antibiotics should not receive a vaccine until they recover from the illness. Once your child feels better, you can give the vaccine.
What important information should I tell the doctor before giving Oflotam M Syrup to my child?
Inform the doctor if your child has heart disease, genetic disorders of blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sun allergy), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. These conditions may be worsened by Oflotam M Syrup and can lead to complications.
My child is having red-brown urine since starting Oflotam M Syrup. Is this normal?
