Introduction
Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients, including ofloxacin and metronidazole, which are antibiotics, and simethicone, a gas-absorbing agent. It is used to treat bacterial infections in children, including those of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Directions for Use
Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by the doctor and to complete the full course of treatment.
How it works
The antibiotic ingredients in Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA, killing the infection-causing bacteria and preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem, aiding in the removal of gases and providing relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Quick Tips
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections. Frequently asked questions
What should I disclose to my child's doctor before administering Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension?
Inform your child's doctor if your child has any pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sun sensitivity), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic blood vessel disorders. These conditions may be exacerbated by Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension and can lead to complications.
Can Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension be taken alongside other medications like cough and cold drops?
No, it is not recommended to combine Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension with cough and cold medicines. One component of Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension can interact with alcohol-containing medications, such as cough syrups, leading to a disulfiram reaction that may include nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, and more.
What should I do if an overdose of Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension occurs accidentally?
While an excess dose of Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension is unlikely to be harmful, immediately contact a medical professional. Overdose may result in adverse effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headaches, sudden weakness, abnormal blood cell counts, and irregular heartbeats. If you notice any such symptoms, seek immediate medical attention from your child’s doctor.
What should I do if my child shows no improvement after taking Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension for the prescribed time?
If your child doesn't experience improvement despite completing the full treatment regimen with Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension, it may indicate that the medication is ineffective against the infection. Consult your doctor who might prescribe a different antibiotic with higher efficacy to fight the disease-causing bacteria. In certain cases, this could require intravenous administration (IV) in a hospital setting.
Can other medications be taken concurrently with Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension?
Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension can interact with other medications or substances. Always inform your child's doctor about all the medications they are currently taking before starting Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension. Consulting a medical professional is crucial before administering any medication to your child.
How should Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension be stored?
Store Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension at room temperature, in a dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Store the medicine out of reach of children to prevent accidental consumption. Make sure all medications are kept away from their reach and sight.
Can I get my child vaccinated while taking Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension?
Antibiotics usually don’t interfere with the ingredients in vaccines, and they do not cause significant adverse reactions in children after vaccination. However, it's crucial for children on antibiotics to avoid receiving vaccinations until recovering from their illness. Once your child feels better, a vaccine can be administered after consulting a healthcare professional.
My child has been passing red-brown urine since starting Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension. Is this normal?
Oflirox-OZ Oral Suspension contains metronidazole, an active ingredient that can cause red-brown urine. This side effect is harmless and temporary. It usually subsides once the medicine course has finished.
