Oflimet Syrup is a medication used to treat bacterial infections in children, including those affecting the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Syrup
Oflimet Syrup is a combination of three active ingredients: ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. It is used to treat bacterial infections in children, including those affecting the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Oflimet Syrup is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by the doctor and to complete the full course of treatment.
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Oflimet Syrup on tongue) after taking Oflimet Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Oflimet Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Oflimet Syrup treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Oflimet Syrup and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
Oflimet Syrup is a combination of three active ingredients: ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA, killing the infection-causing bacteria and preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem, aiding in the removal of gases and providing relief in stomach pain and bloating.

You must tell the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders involving blood vessels. This is because there is a possibility that Oflimet Syrup may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
No, do not give Oflimet Syrup with cough and cold medicines. One of the ingredients present in Oflimet Syrup can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups and cause a disulfiram reaction, leading to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
An extra dose of Oflimet Syrup is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Overdose may cause unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Rush to your child’s doctor if you notice any of these symptoms.
It could mean that Oflimet Syrup is unable to kill the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, visit your child’s doctor who may prescribe some other antibiotic that has a higher efficacy against the disease-causing bacteria. Remember, that sometimes, such antibiotics may have to be given by IV route (intravenous injection) in the hospital.
Oflimet Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Oflimet Syrup. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Store Oflimet Syrup at room temperature, in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Children may accidentally consume medicines if they find them while playing around. So, make sure that all the medicines are kept away from their reach and sight.
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
Oflimet Syrup contains metronidazole, which causes red-brown urine. It is not a sign of any disease but rather a side effect that subsides once the medicine is stopped after completion of treatment.
