Ofex Suspension is an antibiotic medicine commonly given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. It is also part of the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment regimen. This medicine is used to target the eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, abdomen, and urinary tract.
Give the medicine as soon as you remember unless your child's doctor has advised a specific regime for your child. Do not double the dose to catch up. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Ofex Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
Ofex Suspension is an antibiotic that interferes with the genetic material of bacteria by implanting defects in its DNA. This hampers the multiplication of the bacteria and affects its survival, killing the infection-causing bacteria and preventing the infection from spreading without making them resistant to further treatment.
Do not panic and give the medicine as soon as you remember Do not double the dose to catch up Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Ofex Suspension Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect Discontinue Ofex Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing
Giving your child more than the recommended dose of Ofex Suspension is unlikely to cause serious harm. However, if you believe they may have overdosed, contact a healthcare professional immediately. Overdose can lead to unwanted side effects like seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, unconsciousness, and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms appear.
If your child doesn't show significant improvement despite completing the full course of Ofex Suspension, their condition may not be responding to the medication. In this case, consult a doctor who may recommend alternative antibiotics that target specific bacteria causing the infection or other treatment options. It is important to remember that not all medications are administered orally. Some may require intravenous (IV) administration in a hospital setting.
Ofex Suspension can potentially interact with other medications or substances. It is crucial to inform your doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Ofex Suspension. Additionally, always check with your doctor before administering any medication to a child.
Generally, antibiotics don't interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently been immunized. However, it is essential to prioritize your child's health by waiting until they fully recover from the illness before receiving a vaccination. Once your child feels better, you can schedule the vaccination as per your doctor's advice.
Before administering Ofex Suspension to your child, inform your healthcare provider about any pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease, blood vessel disorders, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergic reactions (sunlight allergy), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is important because these conditions may be exacerbated by the use of Ofex Suspension and could lead to complications.
