Introduction
Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients, including ofloxacin and metronidazole, which are antibiotics, and simethicone, a gas-absorbing agent. It is used to treat bacterial infections in children, including those of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Directions for Use
Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by the doctor and to complete the full course of treatment.
How it works
The antibiotic ingredients in Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA, killing the infection-causing bacteria and preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem, aiding in the removal of gases and providing relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Quick Tips
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections. Frequently asked questions
What information should I share with my doctor before administering Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension to my child?
You must inform your doctor if your child has a history of heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergic reactions caused by sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders involving blood vessels. This is important because these conditions might be exacerbated by the use of Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension and could lead to complications.
Can Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension be given alongside cough and cold medications?
No, do not administer Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension concurrently with cough and cold medications. The active ingredients in Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension can interact with those found in alcohol-containing cough syrups, potentially causing a disulfiram reaction, characterized by nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, and other symptoms.
What should I do if an overdose of Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension occurs accidentally?
While exceeding the prescribed dose may not lead to significant harm, it's crucial to contact your child’s doctor immediately. Overdose can trigger side effects like seizures, tremors, severe headaches, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heart rhythms. Seek medical attention if you notice any of these symptoms.
What should I do if my child doesn't show improvement after taking Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension for the prescribed duration?
If your child doesn't experience positive response to the prescribed treatment, it is possible that the medication is unable to fully eradicate the infecting bacteria. In such cases, seeking advice from your child’s doctor is crucial as they may recommend a stronger antibiotic with increased efficacy against the specific bacterial cause of the infection. Keep in mind that these potent antibiotics might be administered intravenously (IV) within a hospital setting.
Can other medications be taken alongside Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension?
There may be interactions between Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension and certain medications or substances. Therefore, informing your child's doctor about all the medications they are currently taking before starting the treatment is essential to ensure safety. You should also consult with your child’s physician for advice on administering any other medicines.
How should Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension be stored?
Store Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension at room temperature, in a dry and well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight or heat sources. It's important to keep medicines inaccessible to children to prevent accidental ingestion. Ensure all medications are kept out of their reach and sight.
Can I get my child vaccinated while taking Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension?
Generally, antibiotics don’t negatively impact the ingredients in vaccines or cause any adverse reactions in children who have recently received one. However, it's advisable to wait for your child to recover fully from their illness before administering any vaccine. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered safely and effectively.
My child has been passing red-brown urine since they started taking Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension. Is it normal?
Ofcinbet-SM Oral Suspension contains metronidazole as an active ingredient, which can cause reddish-brown discoloration in the urine. While not a sign of illness, this side effect is commonly observed and will usually resolve on its own once the medication course has concluded.
