Introduction
Novofran Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine commonly given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. It is also part of the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment regimen. This medicine is used to target the eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, and urinary tract.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Novofran Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
How it works
Novofran Oral Suspension is an antibiotic that interferes with the genetic material of bacteria by implanting defects in its DNA. These defects hamper the multiplication of the bacteria and affect its survival as well. Thus, it kills the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading without making them resistant to further treatment.

Frequently asked questions
What if I give too much of Novofran Oral Suspension by mistake?
Giving an extra dose of Novofran Oral Suspension is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Overdose may cause unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, unconsciousness, and palpitations (irregularities of heartbeat). Rush to your child’s doctor on an immediate basis if you notice any of these symptoms.
What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Novofran Oral Suspension for the prescribed duration?
If your child doesn't improve with Novofran Oral Suspension despite taking it as directed, it may mean that the medicine is not working against the bacteria causing the infection. In such cases, visit your child’s doctor who might prescribe another antibiotic that is more specific in its action. It's important to note that not all medications are taken orally; some may be administered intravenously (IV) in a hospital setting.
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Novofran Oral Suspension?
Novofran Oral Suspension can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Novofran Oral Suspension. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Novofran Oral Suspension?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should avoid getting vaccinated until they are recovered from the illness. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
What should I tell the doctor before giving Novofran Oral Suspension to my child?
Inform the doctor if your child has a history of heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sunlight allergy), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there's a possibility that Novofran Oral Suspension may worsen these conditions and lead to complications.
