Nextop 50 Tablet is an antiepileptic medication used to treat epilepsy (seizures) and to prevent migraines. It is also used in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a rare, but severe form of epilepsy that starts in early childhood).
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Nextop 50 Tablet may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Nextop 50 Tablet is an antiepileptic medication. It controls seizures or fits by decreasing the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.
Take your medication regularly as directed by your doctor as missing doses can trigger seizures. Do not change the brand of your medicine and make sure that you have sufficient amount of medicine present with you. Practice yoga every day. Get enough sleep at nighttime. Limit the use of screen time such as mobile/laptop. Take your medication on time. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day while taking Nextop 50 Tablet. This can reduce the risk of kidney stones. Monitor your weight during treatment with this medicine as it can cause weight gain. Talk to your doctor if you notice sudden mood changes or develop suicidal thoughts. Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may increase the seizure frequency.
The duration of treatment with Nextop 50 Tablet is determined by your doctor and may vary depending on your individual response to the medication and any side effects that may occur. This medication does not cure seizures or migraines, but rather helps to prevent them from occurring. It is essential to follow your doctor's advice and attend regular check-ups to monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed.
Nextop 50 Tablet is not approved for the treatment of anxiety. If you are experiencing anxiety symptoms, it is crucial to consult with your doctor to discuss appropriate treatment options.
Serious side effects of Nextop 50 Tablet are rare, but may include glaucoma (difficulty seeing, eye pain, and blurred vision), kidney stones (sharp pain in your sides or lower back), metabolic acidosis (tiredness, loss of appetite, irregular and faint heartbeat), suicidal thoughts, and insufficient sweating (in children taking the medication, which may cause their body temperature to rise). If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
Nextop 50 Tablet does not interfere with the effectiveness of valproic acid, but it may increase the risk of hyperammonemia (excess levels of ammonia in the blood). This condition can cause difficulty thinking, remembering information, or solving problems, as well as decreased alertness and low energy. If you experience any of these symptoms, inform your doctor immediately. In rare cases, Nextop 50 Tablet alone can also cause hyperammonemia.
Yes, Nextop 50 Tablet is used to treat seizures in children over 2 years of age. However, due to a lack of reports, it is not recommended for the treatment of migraines in children. Consult with your doctor to determine the appropriate use of this medication in children.
Weight loss is a common side effect of Nextop 50 Tablet, likely due to a decrease in appetite. However, if you are concerned about your weight loss or have other symptoms, consult with your doctor who will advise you on the appropriate course of action.
