Newbona Jelly

Short Description

Newbona Jelly is used to prevent or treat weakening of the bones (osteoporosis), caused by menopause or use of steroids), and treat Paget's disease of the bone.

Introduction

Newbona Jelly is best taken without food. You should take it regularly at evenly spaced intervals as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor. Taking it at the same time every day will help you to remember to take it. Do not stop taking it until you have finished even when you feel better. It may take several days to get the full benefit of this drug. Newbona Jelly is only part of a program of treatment that may also include changes to your diet and taking calcium and vitamin supplements.

Take it in the morning at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything. Maintain an upright posture for 30 minutes after taking the medication so the medicine does not irritate your food pipe.

Side Effects

The most common side effects include headache musculoskeletal (bone muscle or joint) pain indigestion heartburn and diarrhea. These are usually mild and will disappear after a short time. If they do not go away tell your doctor.

Alcohol Warning

Consuming alcohol with Newbona Jelly does not cause any harmful side effects.

Breastfeeding Warning

Newbona Jelly is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby. If you are taking Newbona Jelly during breastfeeding, monitor baby's blood calcium levels during the first two months.

Pregnancy Warning

Newbona Jelly may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.

Interacting Medicines

Amikacin Capreomycin Gentamicin Kanamycin

Newbona Jelly is a bisphosphonate. It works by suppressing the activity of osteoclasts cells that cause destruction of bone. This strengthens the bones and minimizes the risk of fractures.

Take it in the morning at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything. Maintain an upright posture for 30 minutes after taking the medication so the medicine does not irritate your food pipe. It may cause the amount of calcium in your blood to fall. Take calcium-rich food in your diet and have regular blood tests to monitor the level of calcium in your blood. It is important to look after your mouth and teeth while you are taking this medicine. Have regular dental check-ups and inform your dentist about taking Newbona Jelly.
