Frequently asked questions
What is Neuromet 500mcg Injection?
Neuromet 500mcg Injection contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient needed by the body to create red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It's also vital for releasing energy from food and using vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can’t I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
You can obtain vitamin B12 from sources like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. People who follow vegetarian or vegan diets may not have enough Vitamin B12 as it is not naturally present in fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, deficiency of vitamin B12 is often observed in vegetarians or vegans.
What happens if I have a vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (an abnormal increase in red blood cells). It may also cause problems with nerve function such as tingling and numbness in the hands and feet. Other potential symptoms include balance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and a sore mouth or tongue.
Is Neuromet 500mcg Injection safe?
Neuromet 500mcg Injection is generally well tolerated and considered safe. However, rare side effects may occur, such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and rash. Discontinue the use of this medication if you experience a rash.
How should Neuromet 500mcg Injection be administered?
Neuromet 500mcg Injection can be given intravenously (directly into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dosage is 1 ampoule (containing 0.5mg of Neuromet 500mcg), and it's usually administered three times a week. After two months, 1 ampoule (0.5mg of Neuromet 500mcg Injection) is given every one to three months as part of long-term maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken when administering Neuromet 500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting at the same site multiple times. If you feel intense pain while injecting, or if blood flows back into the syringe after injection, remove the needle and re-inject at a different location.
