Frequently asked questions
What is Naxistar 1500mcg Injection?
Naxistar 1500mcg Injection provides vitamin B12, an essential nutrient for the body. It plays a crucial role in red blood cell formation and maintaining a healthy nervous system. Vitamin B12 also supports energy release from food and works alongside vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 through my diet?
Vitamin B12 is commonly found in meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, those who follow a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle might not naturally obtain enough Vitamin B12 as it's absent from common plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, deficiency of vitamin B12 is often observed in vegetarians and vegans.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells become abnormally large). It can also result in nerve problems like numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other possible signs include balance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, memory impairment, dry mouth or tongue.
Is Naxistar 1500mcg Injection safe?
Naxistar 1500mcg Injection is generally well tolerated and considered safe. However, rare side effects like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and rashes might occur. If a rash develops, immediately discontinue use of the medication.
How should Naxistar 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Naxistar 1500mcg Injection can be injected either directly into a vein (intravenously) or a muscle (intramuscularly). The usual dose is one ampoule (0.5 mg of Naxistar 1500mcg Injection), given three times per week. After two months, one ampoule (0.5 mg of Naxistar 1500mcg Injection) is administered every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions should be taken when administering Naxistar 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid repeatedly injecting the medication at the same site. If pain during injection occurs or blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-inject at a different location.
