Frequently asked questions
What is Mythamin 1500mcg Injection?
Mythamin 1500mcg Injection contains vitamin B12, an essential nutrient that plays a vital role in the body. Vitamin B12 helps the production of red blood cells and contributes to maintaining a healthy nervous system. It also assists in energy release from food and utilizes vitamin B11 (folate).
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 through my diet?
Vitamin B12 is commonly obtained from animal products such as meat, fish, eggs, and dairy. Individuals who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet may not obtain enough Vitamin B12 naturally as it isn't found in plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, people following these diets are at an increased risk of vitamin B12 deficiency.
What happens if I experience a vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can manifest as tiredness and weakness, constipation, decreased appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (larger-than-normal red blood cells). It may also lead to nerve problems such as numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include balance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and sore mouth or tongue.
Is Mythamin 1500mcg Injection safe?
Mythamin 1500mcg Injection is generally well tolerated with a low risk of side effects. However, rare side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and rash have been reported. Discontinue use immediately if you experience a rash.
How should Mythamin 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Mythamin 1500mcg Injection can be injected either into a vein (intravenously) or a muscle (intramuscularly). The usual dosage is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Mythamin 1500mcg Injection), given three times per week. After two months, the dose is reduced to 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Mythamin 1500mcg Injection) every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken when administering Mythamin 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting the medication at the same site each time. If you experience intense pain while injecting or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert it at a different site.
