Levocetirizine (2.5mg/5ml) + Montelukast (4mg/5ml)

Key Information

Short Description

Montecell Syrup is a medication used to treat symptoms of allergy, asthma, and skin allergies in children.

Dosage Form

Syrup

Introduction

Montecell Syrup is commonly prescribed in children to treat symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, itching, swelling, congestion, and watery eyes. It may also help in the treatment of asthma and skin allergies.

Directions for Use

Montecell Syrup is a medication that should be used as directed by a doctor. It is important to follow the dosage instructions and not to stop taking the medication without consulting a doctor.

Safety Information

Side Effects

No common side effects listed.

How it works

Montecell Syrup contains Levocetirizine and Montelukast. Together these two relieve sneezing and runny nose caused due to allergies. Levocetirizine is an antiallergic that blocks a chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing. Montelukast is a leukotriene antagonist. It works by blocking another chemical messenger (leukotriene). This reduces inflammation (swelling) in the airways and nose and improves symptoms.

Quick Tips

Never combine Montecell Syrup with other cold and flu medicines as that may have side effects. Montecell Syrup helps prevent asthma attacks. Never use it to stop an attack that has already started as it will not help. If you are giving Montecell Syrup to your child for asthma or allergy you need not give another dose to prevent exercise-induced breathing problems. In case of any confusion consult your child’s doctor as soon as possible. Make sure that you always have enough medicine. Practice self-care tips: Abstain your child from coming in contact with allergens, Encourage your child to wear a face mask and avoid dusty places, Give plenty of fluids as it helps in thinning and loosening the mucus in the lungs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I give cough and allergy medicine together if my child is experiencing persistent cough along with allergic symptoms?

No, it's not recommended to mix cough and allergy medicines as they often contain similar ingredients. This can lead to double dosing of active ingredients, resulting in serious side effects. Instead, consult your child's doctor for separate medication recommendations for their symptoms.

Should I adjust the dose of Montecell Syrup if my child starts to feel better?

No, it's essential to adhere to the prescribed dose by your child's doctor. Avoid increasing or decreasing the dose yourself as it can impact your child's health. While increasing the dose may cause unwanted effects like sedation and depression, suddenly stopping or decreasing the dose can result in rebound reversal of symptoms.

How should Montecell Syrup be stored?

Store Montecell Syrup at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Keep all medicines out of children's reach and sight to avoid accidental intake.

Can Montecell Syrup make my child sleepy?

Montecell Syrup may cause mild drowsiness, which can make your child feel sleepy. However, never give this medicine to induce sleep, as it could mask underlying sleep disorders like insomnia.

Is it safe for an athlete to start a course of Montecell Syrup before a sports event?

No, don't start the course without consulting your child's doctor first. Montecell Syrup may cause mild sedation, dizziness, and sleepiness, which can hamper their performance.

Can I stop the medicine by myself if my child is on a long-term course of Montecell Syrup?

No, it's essential to stop this medicine gradually under your child's doctor's guidance. Sudden withdrawal may result in all symptoms reappearing.

Is it safe to give Montecell Syrup to my child if they have a mood disorder?

Some studies show that Montecell Syrup can cause mood disorders, hallucinations, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, shakiness, and trouble controlling body movements. Consult your child's doctor before giving any medicine.

Can I use Montecell Syrup to treat acute asthma attacks in my child?

Montecell Syrup should only be used to prevent asthma attacks. Use reliever medicine to help with an attack that has already started.
