Frequently asked questions
What is Monocobal Injection?
Monocobal Injection contains vitamin B12, a crucial nutrient for your body's red blood cell production and nervous system health. It also plays a role in energy release from food and using vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why might I not get enough Vitamin B12 from my diet?
You can obtain Vitamin B12 from sources like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, some vegetarians and vegans may face a deficiency due to the absence of naturally occurring Vitamin B12 in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to fatigue and weakness. It may also cause constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (larger than normal red blood cells). Additionally, you might experience nerve problems like numbness or tingling in your hands and feet. Other symptoms include balance problems, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness of the mouth or tongue.
Is Monocobal Injection safe?
Monocobal Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, rare side effects like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and rash have been reported. If you experience a rash, immediately discontinue the medication.
How should Monocobal Injection be administered?
Monocobal Injection can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly. The usual dose is 0.5 mg per ampoule and is administered three times a week. After two months, 0.5 mg of Monocobal Injection is given once every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions are necessary when administering Monocobal Injection?
Alternate injection sites for optimal effectiveness and minimize potential pain. If there's intense pain during or after injection, withdraw the needle and re-insert at a different spot to avoid complications.
