Frequently asked questions
What is Micolin 1500mcg Injection?
Micolin 1500mcg Injection contains vitamin B12, a vital nutrient essential for the body's production of red blood cells and the maintenance of a healthy nervous system. Vitamin B12 also plays a role in energy release from food and uses vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can’t I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
Vitamin B12 is obtained through dietary sources such as meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, individuals who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet may experience a deficiency of vitamin B12 as it's not naturally present in fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, vegetarians and vegans are at increased risk for vitamin B12 deficiency.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can manifest as tiredness and weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (an abnormality in red blood cell size). It may also lead to nerve problems such as numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include balance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness of the mouth or tongue.
Is Micolin 1500mcg Injection safe?
Micolin 1500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, potential side effects may occur in some individuals, such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and rash. If a rash occurs, discontinue the use of this medication immediately.
How should Micolin 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Micolin 1500mcg Injection can be administered via intravenous (IV) injection or intramuscular (IM) injection. The usual dose is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Micolin 1500mcg Injection) and is given three times per week. After two months, the dosage is adjusted to 1 ampoule (0.5 mg) once every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken when administering Micolin 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting the medication at the same site each time. If pain intensifies during injection or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert at a different site.
