Suspension
Introduction
Metof Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that is effective against a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections. In children, it is used to treat infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
How it works
Metof Suspension is an antibiotic having ofloxacin and metronidazole as its active ingredients. Both these medicines damage the DNA of the infection-causing bacteria, thus killing it by stopping its growth. This prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.
Quick Tips
If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help if Metof Suspension causes an altered taste. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Metof Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Discontinue Metof Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.

What should I do if I accidentally give my child too much Metof Suspension?
If you suspect your child has taken an excessive dose of Metof Suspension, seek immediate medical attention. This is because overdose can lead to serious side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat.
Why isn't my child improving after taking Metof Suspension for the prescribed duration?
If your child's symptoms persist despite taking Metof Suspension as directed, consult their doctor. This could indicate that the antibiotic is not effective against the specific infection-causing bacteria, and alternative treatment options may be necessary.
Can I give other medications to my child alongside Metof Suspension?
It is essential to inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are currently taking before starting Metof Suspension. Additionally, consult their doctor before administering any new medications to your child while on antibiotic treatment.
Is it safe for my child to receive vaccinations while on Metof Suspension?
Typically, antibiotics do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently been vaccinated. However, it is recommended that children wait until they have recovered from their illness before receiving vaccinations.
What should I disclose to the doctor before giving my child Metof Suspension?
Inform your child's doctor about any pre-existing conditions, such as heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy, neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis.
