Frequently asked questions
What is Metgab-Plus Injection?
Metgab-Plus Injection contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that helps the body produce red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also plays a role in releasing energy from food and using vitamin B11 (folate).
Why can’t I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
You may not get enough vitamin B12 from your diet. It is mainly found in animal products like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. People who do not eat these sources may need to supplement their diet with vitamin B12.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
A lack of vitamin B12 can lead to several issues like fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (larger than normal red blood cells). It may also cause nerve problems such as numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms of deficiency include balance problems, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness of the mouth or tongue.
Is Metgab-Plus Injection safe?
Metgab-Plus Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, some individuals may experience rare side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and rash. If a rash occurs, immediately discontinue the medication.
How should Metgab-Plus Injection be given?
Metgab-Plus Injection can be administered either intravenously (directly into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dose is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Metgab-Plus Injection) and is taken three times a week. After two months, 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Metgab-Plus Injection) is given every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken when administering Metgab-Plus Injection?
Avoid injecting the medication at the same site each time. If intense pain occurs while injecting or if blood returns into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert it at a different site.
