Frequently asked questions
What is MetB12 Injection?
MetB12 Injection is a medication that contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that helps the body produce red blood cells, maintain a healthy nervous system, and release energy from food. It also works with vitamin B11 (folate) to help these processes occur correctly.
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 through diet?
Vitamin B12 is naturally found in animal-derived foods like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Some people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet may not consume enough Vitamin B12 as it's not present in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, those following these diets are more likely to experience vitamin B12 deficiency.
What happens if I have a vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency may cause fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (an abnormal type of red blood cell). It can also lead to nerve problems such as numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Other signs of vitamin B12 deficiency include balance problems, depression, confusion, dementia, memory issues, and soreness in the mouth or tongue.
Is MetB12 Injection safe?
MetB12 Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe when used as directed. However, some rare side effects can occur, such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia (loss of appetite), and rash. If a rash develops, stop taking the medication immediately.
How should MetB12 Injection be administered?
MetB12 Injection can be injected directly into a vein (intravenously) or muscle (intramuscularly). The usual dose is 0.5 mg and it is given three times a week. After two months, the dose is reduced to 0.5 mg every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions should be taken when administering MetB12 Injection?
Avoid injecting at the same site in each injection session. If you experience intense pain during the injection or if blood backflows into the syringe, take out the needle and re-insert it at a different location to ensure a safe injection.
