Mesacol 800 Tablet DR is an anti-inflammatory medicine used to treat a type of bowel disease known as ulcerative colitis. It helps to reduce symptoms such as diarrhea, bleeding and stomach pain by reducing inflammation in the bowel.
Tablet DR
Mesacol 800 Tablet DR may also be used to treat another type of bowel disease known as Crohn’s ileocolitis. It should be taken with food. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for but take it exactly as your doctor prescribes. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Mesacol 800 Tablet DR may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Azathioprine Mercaptopurine
Mesacol 800 Tablet DR is an aminosalicylate. It works by suppressing the production of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause inflammation (swelling) in the intestines. This reduces ulceration, bleeding and stomach pain and prevents future flare-ups of the disease.
You have been prescribed Mesacol 800 Tablet DR for treating and lowering the symptoms of mild inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis. Your doctor may monitor your kidney and liver functions before you start treatment with this medicine and regularly thereafter. Inform your doctor if you have severely decreased kidney or liver function. Do not take Mesacol 800 Tablet DR if you are allergic to aspirin or if you have blood disorders. Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor.
You should continue to take Mesacol 800 Tablet DR as prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel better at the beginning of your treatment. Do not stop taking Mesacol 800 Tablet DR without consulting your doctor.
Alcohol is generally avoided when dealing with ulcerative colitis, as it may irritate the stomach and intestines, potentially worsening your condition. While Mesacol 800 Tablet DR doesn't interfere with its function due to alcohol consumption; consult your doctor before consuming alcohol.
Mesacol 800 Tablet DR may cause joint pain. If you experience this and it persists, please inform your doctor.
