Mepzol 20mg Tablet is a medicine that reduces the amount of acid produced in your stomach. It is used in the treatment of acid-related diseases of the stomach and intestine such as heartburn, acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Tablet
Mepzol 20mg Tablet is best taken one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dose will depend on your underlying condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep on taking it as prescribed even if your symptoms disappear quickly. You can increase the efficiency of the treatment by eating smaller meals more often and avoiding caffeinated drinks (like tea and coffee) and spicy or fatty foods.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Mepzol 20mg Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.
Mepzol 20mg Tablet is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which provide relief from symptoms of heartburn, acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Avoid excessive intake of carbonated beverages/soft drinks citrus juices fried food caffeinated beverages like tea and coffee. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Avoid eating late at night or before bedtime. Inform your doctor if you get watery diarrhea, fever or stomach pain that does not go away. Inform your doctor if you do not feel better after taking it for 14 days as you may be suffering from some other problem that needs attention. Long-term use of Mepzol 20mg Tablet can cause weak bones and a deficiency of minerals such as magnesium. Take adequate dietary intake of calcium and magnesium or their supplements as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking medication without talking to your doctor. Consult your doctor right away if you develop decreased urination, edema (swelling due to fluid retention), lower back pain, nausea, fatigue, and rash or fever. These could be signs of a kidney problem.
Mepzol 20mg Tablet can be taken safely with domperidone as no harmful effects have been reported clinically. A fixed-dose combination of these two medicines is also available. Domperidone works by increasing the gut motility, and Mepzol 20mg Tablet decreases the acid production in the stomach, making this combination effective for treating reflux esophagitis associated with acidity, heartburn, intestinal, and stomach ulcers.
Before taking Mepzol 20mg Tablet, inform your doctor if you are suffering from liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain, or indigestion. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you're taking as they may affect this medicine. Inform your doctor if you have an allergic skin reaction with this medicine. It should not be given to children less than 1 year of age or whose body weight is less than 10 kgs. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.
Yes, Mepzol 20mg Tablet may cause diarrhea as a side effect in some people. If you experience persistent watery stools with stomach cramps and fever, get medical help immediately.

Mepzol 20mg Tablet can cause osteoporosis (thinning of bones) due to decreased calcium absorption, leading to calcium deficiency. This increases the risk of bone fractures on long-term use, like hip, wrist, or spine fractures. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or are taking corticosteroids before starting therapy.
If used for more than three months, certain long-term side effects may be seen. Low magnesium levels in your blood can make you feel tired, confused, dizzy, shaky, or have muscle twitches and irregular heartbeat. Prolonged use beyond a year increases the risk of bone fractures, stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency.
Mepzol 20mg Tablet may cause vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment for absorption from the stomach, which is decreased by this medicine. You may need to take vitamin B12 supplements along with it.
Patients with cardiac disease can take Mepzol 20mg Tablet as prescribed by the doctor. However, interactions with certain drugs (e.g., clopidogrel, digoxin) might occur in patients with underlying cardiac disease.
