Meliv 300mg Tablet is generally considered a safe and effective medication. However, it may cause some common side effects like diarrhea. If you experience diarrhea, your doctor may reduce the dose or discontinue treatment if necessary. Furthermore, long-term usage of this medication might impact liver enzyme levels; your physician will monitor these regularly during treatment. Despite these potential minor side effects, Meliv 300mg Tablet offers a viable alternative to surgery in certain patients with gallstones.
Meliv 300mg Tablet acts on the liver and concentrates in bile secreted from it. This leads to a reduction in cholesterol synthesis and secretion by the liver, thereby decreasing cholesterol levels in bile. Moreover, this medication prevents cholesterol absorption in the intestines. Consequently, decreased cholesterol saturation in the bile from the liver facilitates the gradual dissolution of gallstones, resulting in reduced size and eventual dissolution. It also decreases elevated liver enzyme levels by increasing bile flow through the liver, thus protecting liver cells.
There is a possibility of weight gain with Meliv 300mg Tablet. It's not a common occurrence but may happen. This medication can cause weight gain in individuals with liver disease, specifically when chronic bile stasis leads to impaired bile flow from the liver to the small intestine. In such cases, the liver struggles to transport bile through the small intestine and causes an increase in body fat.
While taking Meliv 300mg Tablet, it is crucial to avoid taking antacids without consulting your doctor. These can decrease the effectiveness of this medication. Additionally, you should refrain from medications like cholestyramine or colestipol, which may impact the efficacy of Meliv 300mg Tablet. Before taking such medications, discuss with your physician about appropriate timing intervals between Meliv 300mg Tablet and these medications.
