Frequently asked questions
What is Medhamin 500mcg Injection?
Medhamin 500mcg Injection is a form of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 plays a crucial role in the production of red blood cells and maintaining a healthy nervous system. It also aids energy release from food and utilization of vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
Vitamin B12 is found naturally in various foods like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, those who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet may face difficulty obtaining Vitamin B12 from food sources as it isn't naturally present in fruits, vegetables, and grains. This can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency may cause fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (an abnormal increase in the size of red blood cells). It can also lead to nerve problems such as numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms include imbalance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, memory impairment, and soreness in the mouth or tongue.
Is Medhamin 500mcg Injection safe?
Medhamin 500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, rare side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, or rash may occur in some individuals. If a rash appears during or after administration, discontinue the use of this medicine immediately.
How should Medhamin 500mcg Injection be administered?
Medhamin 500mcg Injection can be administered directly into a vein (intravenously) or into a muscle (intramuscularly). The usual dose is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Medhamin 500mcg Injection), administered three times weekly. After two months, 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Medhamin 500mcg Injection) is given every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions should be taken while administering Medhamin 500mcg Injection?
When administering Medhamin 500mcg Injection, avoid injecting at the same site each time. If intense pain occurs during injection or blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert at a different location.
