Frequently asked questions
What is Mecvel 1500mcg Injection?
Mecvel 1500mcg Injection contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that the body needs to produce red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also plays a role in releasing energy from food and using vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
You may not be getting enough vitamin B12 through your diet if you are vegetarian or vegan. Vitamin B12 is not naturally found in plants like fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, those who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet may need to supplement with vitamin B12.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells become larger than normal). It may also cause nerve problems, including numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other potential signs of deficiency include balance issues, depression, confusion, memory problems, mouth sores, or tongue soreness.
Is Mecvel 1500mcg Injection safe?
Mecvel 1500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, some individuals may experience mild side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, or an upset stomach. If a rash develops, discontinue the medication immediately.
How should Mecvel 1500mcg Injection be given?
Mecvel 1500mcg Injection can be administered by intramuscular injection (into a muscle) or intravenously (directly into a vein). The usual dose is one ampoule of 0.5 mg and is administered three times per week. After two months, one ampoule of 0.5 mg is given every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken when administering Mecvel 1500mcg Injection?
It's important to use a different injection site each time. If there is pain at the site of injection or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert at a new location.
