Frequently asked questions
What is Mecotrac 1500mcg Injection?
Mecotrac 1500mcg Injection contains Vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 plays a vital role in the production of red blood cells and maintaining a healthy nervous system. It also aids in releasing energy from food and utilizing vitamin B11 (folate).
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
Vitamin B12 is typically obtained through sources like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Individuals who follow vegetarian or vegan diets may not naturally acquire Vitamin B12 as it's not present in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains. This lack of Vitamin B12 can lead to deficiency in those dietary patterns.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency may cause fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (an abnormal condition where red blood cells become larger than normal). It can also trigger nerve problems such as numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms include difficulties with balance, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and sore mouth or tongue.
Is Mecotrac 1500mcg Injection safe?
Mecotrac 1500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, in some instances, rare side effects may be reported, such as nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and rash. If a rash develops while taking this medication, discontinue its use immediately.
How should Mecotrac 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Mecotrac 1500mcg Injection can be injected directly into a vein (intravenously) or into a muscle (intramuscularly). The usual dose is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Mecotrac 1500mcg Injection), and it's administered three times a week. After two months, 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Mecotrac 1500mcg Injection) is given every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions should be taken while administering Mecotrac 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting the same site repeatedly. If you experience intense pain during injection or observe blood returning into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert it at a different site.
