Frequently asked questions
What is Mecotic 1500mcg Injection?
Mecotic 1500mcg Injection contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that the body needs for red blood cell production and maintaining a healthy nervous system. It's also important for releasing energy from food and using vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why may I have difficulty getting enough vitamin B12 in my diet?
Vitamin B12 is found naturally in foods like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, vegetarians and vegans may not get adequate Vitamin B12 as it's not typically present in fruits, vegetables, or grains. Therefore, deficiency in vitamin B12 is more common in these populations.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells become larger than normal). It can also cause nerve problems like tingling or numbness in the hands and feet. Other symptoms include difficulty with balance, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness in the mouth or tongue.
Is Mecotic 1500mcg Injection safe?
Mecotic 1500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, some people may experience rare side effects like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, or rash. If a rash develops, stop taking the medicine immediately.
How should Mecotic 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Mecotic 1500mcg Injection can be injected intravenously (directly into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dose is 0.5mg of Mecotic 1500mcg Injection, given three times a week. After two months, the dose is reduced to 0.5mg of Mecotic 1500mcg Injection every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions should I take when administering Mecotic 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting in the same location each time. If you experience intense pain during injection, or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert at a different site.
