Frequently asked questions
What is Mecosec 1500mcg Injection?
Mecosec 1500mcg Injection is a form of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 plays an essential role in the body by contributing to red blood cell formation and maintaining a healthy nervous system. It's also crucial for releasing energy from food and utilizing vitamin B11 (folate).
Why can’t I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
You can obtain vitamin B12 through sources like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, vegetarians or vegans may not get enough vitamin B12 as it is not naturally present in fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, a deficiency of vitamin B12 is often observed in these groups.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (an abnormal condition where red blood cells become larger than usual). It may also lead to nerve problems such as numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include issues with balance, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness of the mouth or tongue.
Is Mecosec 1500mcg Injection safe?
Mecosec 1500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, rare side effects may occur, such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and rash. If a rash develops, discontinue use of the medication immediately.

Mecosec 1500mcg Injection can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly. The usual dosage is one ampoule (0.5 mg of Mecosec 1500mcg Injection) and is given three times per week. After two months, a dose of one ampoule (0.5 mg of Mecosec 1500mcg Injection) is administered every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken while administering Mecosec 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting at the same site repeatedly. If intense pain occurs during injection or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-inject at a different site.
