Frequently asked questions
What is Mecoriv 2500mcg Injection?
Mecoriv 2500mcg Injection is a form of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that the body needs to make red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also helps release energy from food and use vitamin B11 (folate).
Why can’t I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
Vitamin B12 is found in foods like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. People who are vegetarian or vegan may not get enough vitamin B12 as it's not naturally present in fruits, vegetables, or grains. Therefore, people following these diets can develop a deficiency in vitamin B12.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency may cause tiredness and weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells become larger than normal). It can also lead to nerve problems such as numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include difficulty with balance, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and sore mouth or tongue.
Is Mecoriv 2500mcg Injection safe?
Mecoriv 2500mcg Injection is generally well tolerated. However, as with any medication, rare side effects like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, and rash may occur. Discontinue using the medicine immediately if you experience a rash.
How should Mecoriv 2500mcg Injection be given?
Mecoriv 2500mcg Injection can be administered through either a vein (intravenously) or a muscle (intramuscularly). The usual dosage is 1 ampoule of 0.5 mg Mecoriv 2500mcg Injection, and it's given 3 times a week. After two months, the dosage is adjusted to once every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken while administering Mecoriv 2500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting the medicine at the same site repeatedly. If you experience intense pain while injecting or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-inject at a different spot.
