Frequently asked questions
What is Mecorac 1500mcg Injection?
Mecorac 1500mcg Injection contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 plays a vital role in red blood cell production and maintaining a healthy nervous system. It's also essential for releasing energy from food and working alongside vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why might I struggle to get enough vitamin B12 through diet?
Vitamin B12 can be obtained from various sources, including meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. People who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet may not consume enough vitamin B12 as it is not naturally present in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains. This can lead to deficiency in individuals on those diets.
What happens if I have a deficiency of vitamin B12?
Vitamin B12 deficiency may result in symptoms like fatigue, weakness, constipation, decreased appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells become larger than normal). This can also lead to nerve problems such as numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms include balance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness of the mouth or tongue.
Is Mecorac 1500mcg Injection safe for use?
Mecorac 1500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, in rare cases, side effects like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, or rash might occur. If a rash appears during or after administration, discontinue the medication immediately.
How should Mecorac 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Mecorac 1500mcg Injection can be administered directly into a vein (intravenously) or muscle (intramuscularly). The usual dosage is one ampoule of 0.5mg of Mecorac 1500mcg Injection, given three times a week. After two months, the dose is then reduced to one ampoule (0.5 mg of Mecorac 1500mcg Injection) every one to three months for maintenance therapy.
What precautions should be taken when administering Mecorac 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid repeatedly injecting the medication at the same site. If you experience significant pain during injection or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-inject at a different location.
