Frequently asked questions
What is Mecomec 1500mcg Injection?
Mecomec 1500mcg Injection is a form of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient required by the body to make red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It plays a vital role in releasing energy from food and using vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 from my diet?
Vitamin B12 is commonly found in animal-based foods like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Vegans and vegetarians may not get enough Vitamin B12 as it is not naturally present in fruits, vegetables, or grains. Hence, deficiency of vitamin B12 is often noticed in those following these diets.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency may lead to fatigue and weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (abnormally large red blood cells). Additionally, it can result in nerve problems such as numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms include balance problems, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and sores in the mouth or tongue.
Is Mecomec 1500mcg Injection safe?
Mecomec 1500mcg Injection is generally well tolerated and considered safe. However, some individuals may experience rare side effects like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, or rash. In case of a rash, discontinue the medication immediately.
How should Mecomec 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Mecomec 1500mcg Injection can be administered either intravenously (directly into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dose is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Mecomec 1500mcg Injection), and it is given three times a week. Following two months, the same dose is prescribed every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions should be taken when administering Mecomec 1500mcg Injection?
When injecting Mecomec 1500mcg Injection, avoid using the same injection site repeatedly. If you experience intense pain during injection or observe blood flowing back into the syringe, withdraw the needle and re-insert at a different site.
