Frequently asked questions
What is Mecolus 1500mcg Injection?
Mecolus 1500mcg Injection contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is essential for the body to produce red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also plays a role in releasing energy from food and utilizing vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why might I not be getting enough vitamin B12 from my diet?
You may find it difficult to obtain sufficient vitamin B12 through your diet if you are vegetarian or vegan. Vitamin B12 is primarily found in animal products like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. While plant-based sources of Vitamin B12 do exist, a vegetarian or vegan diet could potentially lead to deficiency.
What happens if I have a vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause fatigue and weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells are larger than normal). It might also result in nerve problems such as tingling or numbness in the hands and feet. Other symptoms may include balance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, memory problems, soreness of the mouth or tongue.
Is Mecolus 1500mcg Injection safe?
Mecolus 1500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, rare side effects may occur, such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia (loss of appetite), or rash. If a rash develops, discontinue use of the medicine immediately.
How should Mecolus 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Mecolus 1500mcg Injection can be given intravenously (directly into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dose is 1 ampoule (containing 0.5 mg of Mecolus 1500mcg Injection), and it's given 3 times per week. After two months, 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Mecolus 1500mcg Injection) is administered every one to three months for maintenance therapy.
What precautions should I take when administering Mecolus 1500mcg Injection?
Do not inject the medication in the same site on each occasion. If you experience intense pain during injection, or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-inject at a different site.
