Frequently asked questions
What is Mecolla Plus 1500mcg Injection?
Mecolla Plus 1500mcg Injection is a form of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that the body requires to produce red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also plays a role in releasing energy from food and using vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
Vitamin B12 is generally obtained from sources such as meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, vegetarians or vegans may not obtain vitamin B12 as it is not naturally found in foods like fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, a deficiency of vitamin B12 is often observed in individuals who follow vegetarian or vegan diets.
What happens if I have a vitamin B12 deficiency?
A deficiency of vitamin B12 can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition characterized by abnormally large red blood cells). Vitamin B12 deficiency may also result in nerve problems like numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Other potential symptoms include imbalance, depression, confusion, dementia, impaired memory, and soreness in the mouth or tongue.
Is Mecolla Plus 1500mcg Injection safe?
Mecolla Plus 1500mcg Injection is generally well tolerated and considered safe. However, in rare cases, possible side effects like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia (loss of appetite), and rash may occur. In case of a rash, discontinue use immediately.
How should Mecolla Plus 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Mecolla Plus 1500mcg Injection can be administered either through a vein (intravenously) or into a muscle (intramuscularly). The usual dosage is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Mecolla Plus 1500mcg Injection), and it is given three times per week. After two months, the dose is adjusted to 1 ampoule (0.5 mg) every one to three months for maintenance therapy.
What precautions should be taken when administering Mecolla Plus 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting at the same site repeatedly. If there is intense pain during injection or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert it at a different location.
