Frequently asked questions
What is Meco 1500mcg Injection?
Meco 1500mcg Injection contains vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that your body needs to make red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also helps release energy from food and work alongside vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
You can obtain vitamin B12 from sources like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet may not receive enough Vitamin B12 since it is not found naturally in plants like fruits, vegetables, and grains. This can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency. Therefore, individuals following these diets should consider supplements to ensure adequate levels.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
A deficiency of Vitamin B12 can cause fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition when red blood cells become larger than normal). It can also affect the nervous system, leading to numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Other possible symptoms include balance problems, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and sores in the mouth or tongue.
Is Meco 1500mcg Injection safe?
Meco 1500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe for most individuals. However, some rare side effects like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, or rash may occur. If you notice a rash, stop using the medication immediately.
How should Meco 1500mcg Injection be given?
Meco 1500mcg Injection can be administered intravenously (directly into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dose is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Meco 1500mcg Injection), and it's typically given three times per week. After two months, 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Meco 1500mcg Injection) is given every one to three months as part of maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken while administering Meco 1500mcg Injection?
Do not inject the medication at the same site each time. If you experience severe pain during injection or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and re-inject at a different location.
