Frequently asked questions
What is Meclab 1500mcg Injection?
Meclab 1500mcg Injection is a form of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient required by the body to produce red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also plays a role in releasing energy from food and using vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can’t I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
Vitamin B12 is typically obtained from animal-based sources like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Vegetarians or vegans may face a deficiency of vitamin B12 as it is not found naturally in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains. Therefore, people following vegetarian or vegan diets are at risk for vitamin B12 deficiency.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency may cause fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells become abnormally large). It can also lead to nerve problems like numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Other symptoms include balance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness in the mouth or tongue.
Is Meclab 1500mcg Injection safe?
Meclab 1500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, rare side effects may occur like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, or rash. If a rash develops, discontinue use immediately.
How should Meclab 1500mcg Injection be given?
Meclab 1500mcg Injection can be administered intravenously (directly into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dose is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Meclab 1500mcg Injection) and it is taken three times a week. After two months, one ampoule (0.5 mg of Meclab 1500mcg Injection) is given every one to three months as part of long-term maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken when administering Meclab 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting the medication at the same site repeatedly. If intense pain occurs during injection or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and inject at a different site.
