Frequently asked questions
What is Mebalmin 1500mcg Injection?
Mebalmin 1500mcg Injection is a solution containing vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that your body needs to create red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also plays a role in releasing energy from food and using vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can’t I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
You can obtain vitamin B12 from dietary sources like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. However, people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet may not receive enough vitamin B12 because it is not naturally found in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains. This might lead to a deficiency of vitamin B12.
What happens if I have a vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency may cause symptoms like fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition that results in abnormally large red blood cells). It might also lead to nerve problems such as numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Other potential symptoms include balance problems, depression, confusion, dementia, memory impairment, and sore mouth or tongue.
Is Mebalmin 1500mcg Injection safe?
Mebalmin 1500mcg Injection is generally well tolerated. However, rare side effects might occur such as nausea, diarrhea, anorexia (loss of appetite), or rash. If a rash appears, discontinue using the medication and seek medical attention immediately.
How should Mebalmin 1500mcg Injection be administered?
Mebalmin 1500mcg Injection can be administered intravenously (into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dose is 0.5 mg of Mebalmin 1500mcg Injection, given three times a week. After two months, the dosage is reduced to 0.5mg every one to three months as part of long-term maintenance therapy.
What precautions should be taken when administering Mebalmin 1500mcg Injection?
Avoid injecting Mebalmin 1500mcg Injection at the same site every time. If experiencing intense pain while injecting or if blood returns to the syringe, remove the needle and re-insert at a different location.
