Macromycin Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat Toxoplasmosis in pregnant women, lowering the risk of transmission to the unborn child.

Introduction

Macromycin Tablet should be taken orally on an empty stomach. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping the medicine too early may lead to the infection returning or worsening. Commonly seen side effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea. These are usually temporary and subside with the completion of treatment. Consult your doctor if these side effects do not resolve or persist for a longer duration. Regular monitoring of liver function tests (LFT’s) may be required while using this medicine. This medicine is safe to use during pregnancy. However, it will not affect the severity of the disease if the unborn child has already been infected. Inform your doctor if you have any previous history of allergy before taking this medicine.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Macromycin Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.

Macromycin Tablet is an antibiotic. It works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Thus, it stops the bacteria from growing and prevents the infection from spreading.

Your doctor has prescribed Macromycin Tablet to lower the risk of transmission of toxoplasma infection to your unborn child. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It is safe to use in the first trimester of pregnancy. Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it doesn't stop or if you find blood in your stools.
