Macitentan (10mg)
Macirol 10mg Tablet is a prescription medicine used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (high pressure in the blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to the lungs).
Tablet
Macirol 10mg Tablet is given alone or in combination with some other medicines. It should be taken with or without food. This medicine should be used regularly to get the most benefit from it. The dose and how often you take it depends on what you are taking it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. You should take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Macirol 10mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Macirol 10mg Tablet is an endothelin receptor blocker. It blocks the action of endothelin (a natural substance) that causes blood vessels to narrow (constrict). This narrowing increases the pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs. Macirol 10mg Tablet helps relax these blood vessels and increases the supply of blood to the lungs.
Notify your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding. Your doctor may ask you to get routine blood tests done to check for anemia and to assess the functioning of your liver. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how Macirol 10mg Tablet affects you. Inform your doctor if you notice weight gain, swelling of your arms and legs, or difficulty breathing. Inform your doctor if you notice yellowing of skin/eye, dark urine, or stomach pain.
Females who are of reproductive age and could become pregnant should use two acceptable forms of contraception during treatment with Macirol 10mg Tablet, along with one month after stopping the medication. This is due to the time needed for the medicine to leave the body. If you have tubal sterilization, a progesterone implant, or an IUD (intrauterine device), these methods can be used alone. Please consult your doctor if you are unsure about your contraceptive method.
The prescribed dose of Macirol 10mg Tablet is to be taken once daily. It can be taken with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed. For best results, it should be taken at the same time each day.
There is some evidence that it may lower fertility in men. It could also impact sperm count. Before taking Macirol 10mg Tablet, discuss with your doctor about the risks associated with this medication.
Your doctor will conduct blood tests before and during treatment. This is to check for anemia (low hemoglobin or red blood cell count) and assess liver function.
