Frequently asked questions
Why have I been prescribed Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet?
Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet is an aromatase inhibitor used to treat hormone-receptor positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who no longer experience menstruation, due to factors like menopause or after surgical removal of breasts or chemotherapy.
How does Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet work?
Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet is also known as an anti-estrogen drug because it functions by reducing the production of estrogen in your body through blocking the enzyme aromatase, which plays a role in estrogen generation. Estrogen stimulates certain types of breast cancer that are dependent on estrogen. Reducing estrogen levels may prevent this type of cancer from expanding.
For how long should I take Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet?
Treatment with Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet will depend on the stage and spread of your breast tumor. If it has progressed or spread to other areas, treatment is continued until there is evidence of tumor progression. If you have received Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet after tamoxifen (another anti-estrogen for breast cancer) or surgery, the duration of treatment should be for 5 years or until a recurrence occurs, whichever comes first. Treatment may also be given in a sequential manner with 2 years of Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet followed by 3 years of Tamoxifen.
If I am taking irbesartan to control my blood pressure, can I take Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet?
Yes, you can safely combine irbesartan and Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet as they can be used together without any significant side effects or drug interactions. However, careful monitoring of your blood pressure is necessary, especially as Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet may slightly increase it.
Does Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet affect vision?
While rare, Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet may cause a cataract. It's vital to consult your doctor immediately if you experience blurred vision or eye irritation.
My friend who is taking Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet often sweats a lot. Is it because of Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet?
The sweating (hot flushes) you mention could be a side effect of Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet, which occurs due to the decrease in estrogen levels within the body. These side effects usually become less frequent once your body adapts to the medication.
What are the serious side effects of Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet?
Serious side effects from Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet are uncommon and may occur rarely. Serious side effects include stroke, angina, heart attack, blood clotting, cataracts, osteoporosis, and severe skin reactions.
Does Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet cause bone loss?
Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet may lead to thinning or weakening of your bones (osteoporosis), which is caused by the reduced estrogen levels in the body. Your doctor might measure your bone density to assess osteoporosis risk throughout the treatment.
Can I take Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet for induction of ovulation in anovulatory infertility?
As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Lytrol 2.5mg Tablet is not approved or permitted for use to induce ovulation in cases of anovulation (infertility). It's crucial to follow your doctor’s recommendations for your specific case.
