Key Information

Short Description

Lof 50mg Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in children, including those affecting the eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, abdomen, and urinary tract.

Dosage Form

Oral Suspension

Introduction

Lof 50mg Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in children. It is commonly given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections targeting the eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, abdomen and urinary tract. Lof 50mg Oral Suspension is also a part of the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment regimen.

Directions for Use

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Lof 50mg Oral Suspension may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How it works

Lof 50mg Oral Suspension is an antibiotic. It interferes with the genetic material of bacteria by implanting defects in its DNA. These defects hamper the multiplication of the bacteria and affect its survival as well. Thus it kills the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading without making them resistant to further treatment.

Quick Tips

Do not panic. You can give the medicine as soon as you remember unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child. In case of any confusion do consult your doctor Do not double the dose to catch up Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Lof 50mg Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions Discontinue Lof 50mg Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing Only give Lof 50mg Oral Suspension to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses

Frequently asked questions

What if I give too much of Lof 50mg Oral Suspension by mistake? What should I do?

An extra dose of Lof 50mg Oral Suspension is unlikely to harm. However, if you believe you may have given your child more than the prescribed dosage, immediately contact a doctor or healthcare professional. Overdose can lead to unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, unconsciousness, and palpitations (irregular heartbeat). If any of these symptoms are observed, seek immediate medical attention for your child.

What should I do if my child doesn't show improvement after taking Lof 50mg Oral Suspension for the prescribed duration?

If your child does not improve after taking Lof 50mg Oral Suspension for the full prescribed duration, it may be due to the medicine's inability to fight the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, consult a doctor who can prescribe alternative antibiotics or discuss other treatment options. It is important to note that not all medications are administered orally; some may require intravenous (IV) administration.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Lof 50mg Oral Suspension?

Lof 50mg Oral Suspension might interact with other medicines or substances. It's crucial to inform your child's doctor about any additional medications they are currently taking before starting Lof 50mg Oral Suspension, and consult the doctor for guidance on administering any new medication. It is important to always seek professional medical advice from a qualified healthcare provider.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Lof 50mg Oral Suspension?

Antibiotics generally do not interfere with the components of vaccines and do not cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received a vaccine. However, children on antibiotics should be given no vaccinations until they fully recover from their illness. Once your child is feeling better, the vaccination can be administered as prescribed.

What should I tell the doctor before giving Lof 50mg Oral Suspension to my child?

Inform the doctor if your child has a history of heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sensitivity to sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there's a possibility that Lof 50mg Oral Suspension may worsen these conditions and lead to complications.
