Lifoclav-CV 625 Tablet is a combination of three medicines: Amoxycillin, Clavulanic Acid and Lactobacillus. Amoxycillin is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Amoxycillin against bacteria. This treats your infection but may upset your digestive system by killing healthy gut bacteria as well. Lactobacillus is added to restore the balance of healthy bacteria.
Lifoclav-CV 625 Tablet is contraindicated in patients with a history of allergic reactions to any penicillin. It is also avoided in patients with a previous history of cholestatic jaundice or liver dysfunction associated with the medication.
Lifoclav-CV 625 Tablet may be taken every 8 hours or every 12 hours, depending on the prescribed dose by your healthcare provider. It should be taken with a meal or snack to minimize the possibility of experiencing an upset stomach. Some antibiotics can cause diarrhea. If diarrhea is severe or lasts for more than 2 or 3 days, consult your healthcare provider.
No, complete the entire course of treatment even if you feel better. It is common to feel better early on in the treatment course. However, skipping doses or not completing the full course of therapy may reduce the effectiveness of the immediate treatment and could increase the risk of bacteria developing resistance to the antibiotics.
If you have had an allergic reaction to one type of penicillin, you may experience hypersensitivity to ampicillin or some cephalosporins. However, this is not always the case and it is essential for patients to inform their healthcare provider if they have a history of penicillin allergy.
